Bret,
As we discussed recently, the novel 1984 seems to be one from the 20th century likely to be read in 500 years. You may not know I did two blogs on it on my website when I read it in 2021. If you are interested, go to Philosophicalguidance.com and under CURRENT READING you will find it. I posted on May 21 and May 24, 2021.
If you have time, let me know what you think.
Regards,
Greg

Hello, Greg!
I did not know you had these posts on 1984 before! I wanted to reply there but it didn’t look like there was an option to do that. I thought your posts interesting and wanted to delve deeper into your second post on dissecting1984 into the four themes of privacy/freedom, truth vs. societal truth, suffering, and the correct conduct of life. As your first post indicated, I also do see many parallels to current American government/society, especially concerning constant capabilities to being recorded at almost all times now, cell phones and their algorithms essentially “spying” on us, etc., but maybe most notably, the language I hear coming from our government juxtaposed to the constant contradictions with language in 1984. One of the most fascinating things about that book is the notion of “dumbing” down the language, or essentially, erasing the words that allow people the means to produce the thoughts to understand complex issues and think critically.
We will need to discuss this more!
